The Story Behind the Scissors

Keeper of the Scissors is a small fabric shop built around a simple idea: quilting should be fun.

What started with a love of fabric (and perhaps an inability to pass up a really good print!) grew into a shop filled with quilting cottons, fat quarters, panels, patterns, notions, and plenty of inspiration for whatever you're stitching next.

Keeper of the Scissors may be a small 500 sq ft shop, but that's part of what makes us different. Every order matters here. Whether you're choosing fabric for a treasured quilt, grabbing a few fat quarters just because they made you smile, or hunting for the perfect backing to finally finish that project—we're happy you're here.

And Petrie and her friends are pretty happy you're here, too. Keeper of the Scissors helps keep more than 70 furry, feathered, and four-legged mouths fed around here—and they take snack time very seriously. So when you shop small with us, you're not only supporting a small business...you're helping keep a rather large collection of spoiled critters in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed. 🦆🐕🦃🐇🪿🐓🐾

Meet Lacy & Larry

Keeper of the Scissors is a partnership in every sense of the word. Lacy handles much of the fabric hunting, buying, website wrangling, and the million little things that come with running a small shop, while Larry is an important part of what happens behind the scenes.

If you've ordered fat quarters or panels from us, there's a pretty good chance Larry helped cut them. He also helps package orders and keeps things moving when the fabric piles start multiplying—which, around here, happens surprisingly fast.

Together, we do our best to make Keeper of the Scissors feel like the kind of quilt shop we'd want to shop from ourselves: friendly, personal, and filled with things that make you want to start just one more project.

Meet Petrie 🦆

Petrie — shop mascot, fabric supervisor, and self-appointed head of snack quality control.

No introduction to Keeper of the Scissors would be complete without Petrie, our silver Runner duck and very opinionated shop mascot. She appears everywhere from Petrie's Picks to our packages and takes her fabric-curating responsibilities almost as seriously as she takes snack time.

She's also the face of a much larger crew of animals behind the scenes—although, according to Petrie, she's clearly the most important one.

We love giving quilters plenty to explore—from new arrivals and everyday favorites to 3-yard quilt supplies, preorders, and our Weekly Snip specials.

We're always adding something new, but the goal stays the same: good fabric, friendly service, and a shop that feels like a fun place to visit rather than just another website.

Because around here, we believe there's always room for one more quilt...and probably one more piece of fabric.
