Meet Petrie: The Duck Behind Keeper of the Scissors
If you’ve spent any time around Keeper of the Scissors, you’ve probably already met Petrie.
She’s the tall, silver runner duck who has somehow managed to become the face of a fabric shop without ever learning to sew.
Petrie is part mascot, part quality-control inspector, and part inspiration behind a lot of what you see around here. If a fabric collection has ducks, geese, farm animals, flowers, or anything else that catches her eye, there’s a pretty good chance it ends up on our wish list.
Around here, we joke that Petrie’s fabric-buying philosophy is pretty simple:
If it waddles, we stock it. 😂
Keeper of the Scissors is a very small shop — only about 500 square feet — and it truly is a family operation. I handle most of the website, fabric buying, listings, customer messages, and all the little jobs that seem to multiply overnight. Larry helps cut fat quarters and panels, packs orders, and keeps things moving behind the scenes.
And then there’s Petrie.
She may not actually help cut fabric, but she has become such a big part of the shop that it wouldn’t feel quite the same without her.
One of the things I love most about having a small fabric shop is that every order really does matter. When you place an order here, it isn’t disappearing into a giant warehouse. We see it, cut it, pack it, and send it on its way from our little shop.
Sometimes there may even be a duck nearby supervising the process.
That personal side of the shop is something I never want to lose. I want Keeper of the Scissors to feel like a friendly little corner of the quilting world where you can discover a new fabric collection, find something fun for your next project, and maybe get introduced to a few animals along the way.
If you’d like to see more of Petrie and the rest of her friends, you can also find us on TikTok at Just Enough Homestead, where you’ll get a little peek at life outside the fabric shop.🪿 🦆 🪿 🐓 🦃 🐇 🐕 🐈 🦆 🪿
So if you’re new here, welcome.
And if you’ve been here a while, thank you for helping support this tiny shop, Petrie, and all the other mouths that depend on it.
Around here, we like to keep things simple:
Snip. Stitch. Smile.
And apparently, quack.
